Ron Benton's
1967 Mercury Monterey S-55

Massive 428 Super Marauder

Cavernous Trunk

The S55 was the high-performance model for 1967, the Marauder having been (temporarily) retired after 1965.

Here is what Ron has to say about this amazing machine:

"The car has won best of 60’s in show competition. I have an Elite Marti Report that shows this car as a 1 of 1. It is rare. The car drives beautifully and performs flawless."

The dealer literature had this to say about the S-55:

"S-55 Sports Package Option

For NEW Sizzle and Performance!  All it takes is a two-door hardtop or convertible and the optional zing and excitement of the new S-55 Sports Package Option.

Your 428 four-barrel comes with the S-55 Option.  Real fire under the hood-fire dressed in a glittering coat of chrome and stainless, fire you can hear from tuned dual pipes, but fire controlled by power disc brakes.

Inside, it's the luxury sports flavor of bucket seats and console - and the pure pleasure of driving that makes your S-55 1967's most exciting idea for the man who wants performance in a full-size package.

Outside ...deluxe wheel covers with spinners, body side paint stripes, bright side and rocker panel moldings, "428" front fender plaque, rear fender S-55 nameplate.  Inside...bucket seats, console, deluxe steering wheel, deluxe sould package, automatic parking brake release (with automatic transmission), and S-55 identification on the glove box.

On the performance side...428 CID $V V-8 standard (with 4-speed manual or new SElect-Shift Automatic transmission), dual exhausts, heavy-duty battery, power disc brakes, and engine dress-up kit (chromed master brake cylinder cap, air cleaner cover, fan guard, radiator cap,and rocker arm cover, stainless steel dip stick."
