I've been neglecting the Shipman side of the family, so...

Sarah sitting on the couch!  What a beauty!

Aunt Laura

Although not a blood relative, no one could ask for a better aunt or friend.  Laura is one of Mum's best friends, but is also a beloved member of our family.

Joanne Gottsche

Joanne was my best friend during my Air Force years at Keesler, but was also an important friend of our entire family.  She was diagnosed with three malignant brain tumors in 1990 and left us in early 1991.  Her passing left a huge hole in my heart.  This picture was taken at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra concert where I was an usher, just before she was diagnosed.  Click on the image or link above to see and read more of Joanne.

Joe Ferguson

A great friend at college who became an amazing friend in the following years.  Joe was killed on September 11, 2001 on the plane that was flown into the pentagon.  Click on the image or the link to see and read more of Joe.

The closest thing I ever had to a little brother - Aaron Mansfield

At the ripe old age of 25, I inherited Aaron from his parents - General (then Lt. Col.) Robert Mansfield and his wife, Jeanine - when he rebelled against all logic and chose to go to the University of Southern Mississippi over several more prestigious schools.  The Mansfields left for their assignment in Germany and I kept the kid.  He now has his Ph.D., has two kids and is a minister in Kentucky!

Brian, Lisa, Chelsea, and Channing Midgette                                                    Brian is on the right (with the stuffed Snoopy)

Brian Midgette is my oldest friend in the world.  He and I have known each other since my family  moved to Virginia in 1964.  Brian, Parker Heaffner, and I were like the Three Musketeers; I have very few memories of my years in Virginia that do not involve them and their families.  My family left Virginia for Mississippi in 1970.  Brian went to dental school at the Medical College of Virginia where he met his wonderful wife, Lisa.  Parker moved to Atlanta.  Unfortunately, Parker was the first of my friends to die of AIDS.  Brian moved back to Chesapeake after dental school and became partners with Parker's dad (who had been our family dentist).  He has since bought the practice from Dr. Heaffner who has retired.  Brian and Lisa's second daughter, Channing, is named after me.
