1978 Jeep CJ-5
(aka The Konovalov)
My GMC Jimmy was named Red October.  My Jeep, being the vehicle to follow that truck, was named the Konovalov, or Tupolev's boat.  If you've read Tom Clancy's novel, the Hunt for Red October, then you know that the Konovalov was the Alfa class attack submarine sent to stop Red October from defecting, or failing that, destroy her.  Tupolev was her captain.

This was my favorite spot for photographing my cars - a corn field outside of Rantoul, IL when I was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base.

This was taken in the front yeard of the house I rented in Rantoul.

This is what the Jeep looks like now.

My friend Greg Fogleman called me one day and asked me if I'd sell him my Jeep.  (We had been stationed together when I bought it.)  At the time, I was tired of paying for a parking space for it, and I wasn't driving it much.  He made me an offer, and I accepted.  He flew out within a few weeks to pick it up.  If I'd had more time to think on it, I wouldn't have sold it.

I cried as he drove it away.
