Marauder

Like the original Marauders of the 1960's, the Marauder is a high performance version of the full-size Mercury platform.  The Grand Marquis has a reputation as an old man's car, so Mercury was hoping to attract some younger buyers with the mean looks and aggressive performance of the Marauder.

With black monochrome paint, huge chrome wheels and visible dual-exhaust, it sure looked the part.

2003 Mercury Marauder

The production model was mostly unchanged from the concept.  The 303 HP, 4.6 liter engine really made the Marauder move!

2003 Mercury Marauder

With a 302hp 4.6 liter V8, this is what McGarrett's grandson would drive to mete out justice in Hawaii!

This is what AutoWeek said about the Marauder upon its introduction!

Alas, the high price-tag and old-man reputation were too much.  After one year and dismal sales, the Marauder was discontinued for 2004.  Maybe I'll be able to find a used one some day when the price has dropped to something I can afford.
